Tuesday October 14 The Harvest is Plentiful: Goats and Gardens in Malawi Join Mother Kate Malin and her fellow travelers for a lively presentation on this summer’s two-week trip to Malawi. Meet the people of Chikwawa Parish, home to our “Goats for Malawi” project, and many other creative and determined Malawians who are working with Christ Church and our partners Episcopal Relief and Development and Love’s Harvest to empower the rural poor to grow the food they need throughout the year on their own land. This program is appropriate for the entire parish family.
Tuesday November 18 Amazing Grace CIRCUS! comes to town The Amazing Grace Circus was founded in 2002 to help young people process and respond to the horrors of September 11, 2001 in a creative and life-giving way. Since that time, AGC! has developed classes and workshops for youth and adults, using circus arts to build collaborative relationships and promote the use of imagination and play as tools toward spiritual growth and social consciousness. Join us for peanuts, cracker jack and lots of fun for the whole parish family.
Tuesday December 9 The Mary Question The “Mary Question” is a point of substantial agreement—and substantial disagreement—with our other Christian neighbors. This Advent One Tuesday will feature a panel discussion about the Mother of God with friends from other Christian traditions, and ample opportunity for questions and answers. We will offer a creative program for children, Great Adventure, in the Crispell Lounge at 6:30 pm.
Tuesday January 20 The Future of Anglicanism We welcome the Rev. Dr. Paul Avis, one of the leading scholarly voices in issues of Anglican Identity. Dr. Avis served as Secretary of the Council for Christian Unity, based at Church House, Westminster, holding overall staff responsibility for the Church of England's ecumenical relationships and theological dialogues, and is Canon Theologian at Exeter Cathedral and Chaplain to HM the Queen.
Tuesday February TBD
Tuesday March 10 Tipping Points: Science, Theology and Global Climate Change Christ Church is going green in ways large and small. From geo-thermal heating and cooling to recycling and using more eco-friendly products, we are responding to the call to be better stewards of the earth and its resources. Global climate change is a controversial topic. This ONE Tuesday presentation will examine the science and theology behind the headlines and offer an entertaining and educational look at the relationship between science and theology, stewardship and politics, including some practical ideas on how you can make a difference.

Sunday Short Series Each series meets for four Sundays at 11:15 am, following the 10:00 Eucharist, in the Conference Room or the Crispell Lounge. Feel free to drop in for any or all classes.
October 26, November 2, November 9, November 16 Mary, the Mother of God What can we know about this first-century Jewish Woman in relationship to her Son, and how did she become so central to (and sometimes so marginalized within) Christian devotion? Get ready for Advent with an in-depth look at The Mother of God, in Scripture, Tradition, Anglican Devotion and the Arts — even our Lady Chapel kneelers!
March 1, 8, 22, and 29 (no class on March 15) This Is Our Faith“Do you believe in God?” The season of Lent offers the perfect opportunity to consider this question, not just for its own sake but in light of our Baptismal Covenant, which we renew together on Easter Sunday. Our Lenten adult education series will consider the Apostles’ Creed as the basic statement of our baptismal faith. A brief look at the creed’s history will give way to thought provoking consideration of the claims it makes, and how they can be embraced as reasonable and true in the twenty-first century.
May 10, 17, 24 and 31 Come Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is the most elusive reality in all of Christian belief and experience; yet for many he (she?) is also the most powerful. As we prepare for and celebrate Pentecost, our final adult education series will explore the person and work of the Holy Spirit as it is depicted in Scripture, understood through the ages and experienced today.

Parish Study Group on Global Climate Change Ken Richardson and the Rev. Kate Malin will lead a study group on four Monday evenings in January and February 2009 to explore issues related to climate change: the science, the myths, the politics and the theology. We will get specific about what some call the coming decade’s potentially dangerous climatic tipping points and learn more about what we can do locally, and what must happen globally, to switch to a low-carbon economy. The dates for this study group are Mondays January 12 and 26, and February 9 and 23, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. For more information, contact the Rev. Kate Malin at kmalin@ccbny.org.
